Camogie

The objective of camogie coaching during school hours for infants to third class is to ensure the development of the skills of the game at an early age. Third class usually has a league during the last term of school. Many thanks to our local Faughs Camogie Club who have provided coaching, hosted the final, as well as providing medals and party treats in their club for this occasion in the past.

Fourth to sixth classes train in Bushy Park. Ms. Fitzgerald, Ms. Kelly and Ms. Murphy, along with Faughs coaches, do great work in organising a senior camogie blitz every year. This has been very successful in its own right, and in preparing the girls for the Cumann Na mBunscoil competitions. Watch this space for more news!

This year our camogie season has got off to a great start. We are in the Division 1 of the Corn Bean Phúirséil league. Our first match was against Bishop Galvin's National School. We played a great game and came out with a win of 6-2 to 2-0. Our next match was at home to Loreto. It was in mucky conditions and at half time the sides were level. St. Pius showed great team spirit and we managed to overcome Loreto by 5-1 to 2-0 and best of all we had no homework!! Our last game of the group stages was against St. Colmcille's. Our goalie Emily in 5th class had a great game and made many vital saves. We had a great result beating them by 4 goals. Thankfully this means that we are through to the semi final! Come on St. Pius! Pius abú!!

St. Pius X G.N.S. Junior Camogie Team consists of 21 girls in 4th, 5th and 6th class. I am one of the very lucky few. During our matches we all had team spirit and never gave up even if we were losing. Unfortunately we lost our first match 2-1.

We moved onto our second match with hope. Both teams had not scored but in the last ten minutes they scored a goal. We were sad but we did not give up. Soon we heard what we did not want to hear, the whistle for the end of the match, leaving the score at 1 nil.

We moved onto our third match hoping that this was the match we were going to win. We did not know if we were going to win or lose because they had lost all their matches too but we were in luck. We won 4 nil. We have now gotten into The Shield and have more matches to play in the future and let's hope we do well.

Camogie Final Draw in Croke Park

Monday, April 29th 2013

This camogie season has gone by so quickly. It has been great fun and we were really successful in every match. Our first match was against Bishop Galvin's. We showed many great skills and came out on top. Up next we played at home against St. Colmcille's. It was very muddy but we still displayed wonderful team spirit and fought hard to win the match. Our last match of the group stages was against Loreto, Grange Road. Our team work was amazing which led to us securing our place in the semi-finals.

The semi-final was our toughest match yet. We were playing against St. Vincent De Paul, Marino. Many supporters came and cheered us on throughout the whole match. We were very lucky to get a goal and two points straight after throw in. Unfortunately, Marino scored a goal ten minutes later but we fought back and scored another two goals leaving the scoreline at 3-2 to 2-0... .We drew in the final in Croke Park against St. Brigid's, Castleknock.

We would like to thank our fabulous supporters who provided a sea of blue and green in Croke Park!!!

Victorious Dublin Hurlers Visit with League Cup

Two members of the Dublin hurling team who won the National League final recently visited or school with the league cup. They spoke to the girls and signed autographs. The team members who visited were  Maurice O’ Brien from Faughs and Niall Corcoran. We hope that our budding camogie players will be inspired by their achievement.
