Music
We continue to provide a very comprehensive music programme for all the children in the school. Ms. Berni Gunning is the Music co-ordinator and is ably assisted by Ms. Miriam Marron. Our Music library is fully stocked with an excellent percussion section and a very large variety of books and cds. Each child from 2nd to 6th Class learns to play the recorder.

Ms. Gunning and Ms. Marron take the school choir which will sing at all major school events including First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Our annual Christmas Carol Service takes place in December in St. Pius X Church and, as always, parents are very welcome.

National Children’s Choir 2013

Our school choir, under the guidance of Ms. Gunning and Ms. Marron, has recently participated in the National Children's Choir. This event gives the children a wonderful opportunity to display their singing talents as part of a national choir. The regional concert took place in the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght on May 1st and some of our girls have been selected to sing in the National Concert Hall at the end of May. The concerts were most enjoyable with a vast repertoire of songs from some of the world's most renowned composers. Great credit is due to all involved.

Drum Nature Workshops

Drum Nature visited the school from Wednesday 10th to Friday 12th April. The girls had a rhythmically riotous time!

Córfhéile na Scoileanna 2013

In March St. Pius X GNS choir once again participated in Corfheile na Scoileanna in the National Basketball  Arena in Tallaght. They sang their hearts out and were duly awarded with an excellent adjudication and huge applause.

End of Year Choir Concert and CD Launch

On Saturday 19th May the rafters of the church were once again lifted by the choir at the First Holy Communion of the girls and boys of St. Pius X.  Just a few days later the girls spent a day with sound engineer Scott Halliday recording their fourth CD. The production of the CD was a whole school effort with Ms Kelly recording a DVD of the Choir and Aoife from 6th Class designing the cover. The CD/DVD is available to purchase from the office – a bargain at €10!

On Wednesday 13th June the choir held a concert for family and friends and sang to a packed and appreciative GP room. (This followed a two hour long dress rehearsal for the school). That was the last event for our 6th Class singers who have made such a huge contribution to the choir over the last three years. They will be sadly missed but we are confident that the girls in 4th and 5th will carry on the mantle. The 4th and 5th Classes will sing for the Graduation Mass on Wednesday 27th June bringing their busy year to an end.

Lunchtime Concerts

This term we had the first two of our occasional lunchtime concerts. Our first concert was led by Liz Leonard, a parent and joining her on violin were Phoebe, Orla, Fiona and Elva. What a treat! Our second concert took place outside in glorious sunshine. This time Pat Reid was the parent who gave up his time to give us some very special renditions on the clarinet. He was joined by Aifric on flute, Sarah on recorder and Aisling and Keeva on clarinet. We hope to continue with these occasional lunchtime concerts in 2012/2013 as there seems to be a wealth of talent among our girls and their parents.
